Mumbai, Dec. 3 -- Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has expressed deep condolences on the passing of senior socialist leader and former editor of Dainik Marathwada, Pannalal Surana, describing him as a personality who tirelessly fought for the rights of landless farmers, labourers, and the underprivileged.

In his condolence message, Pawar stated that Surana played a major role in the establishment of the old Samajwadi Party, the Janata Party, and numerous progressive organisations and mass movements. He was a witness to and participant in significant historical phases, from the 'Chale Jaav' movement and the freedom struggle, through Independence and the Emergency, to the country's subsequent socio-political transitions.
