Kannur, Dec. 26 -- : Senior Congress woman leader, Adv P. Indira (56) sworn in as the sixth Mayor of Kannur Corporation, while K P Tahir of Indian union Muslim League (IUML) elected as the Deputy Mayor from Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF), on Friday.
UDF retained the Kannur Corporation by winning 36 divisions in the recent elections, while LDF secured 15, NDA -4 and SDPI-1 in the 56 member council. Payyambalam councillor Indira secured 36 votes, while VK Prakashini of CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front (LDF) got 15 votes and NDA candidate Archana Vandichal got four votes, and one vote became invalid, in the mayoral elections held in the morning under the supervision of District Collector Arun K Vijayan.
