Chandigarh, Nov. 14 -- For the first time in 150 years, a Dalit groom rode a horse during his wedding procession in Kheri Dalu Singh village of Bawal in Rewari district on Thursday. The historic procession, marking the end of a long-standing social taboo, was held under tight security as police teams from three stations were deployed, supervised by the local DSP.

According to officials, the groom, Ankit, who works with the Animal Husbandry Department, fulfilled a wish that generations of his community had been unable to realize due to a deep-rooted caste-based custom in the village.
