Kannur, Aug. 14 -- Local Self- Government (LSG) and Excise Minister M B Rajesh today announced that 52,635 families in Kerala have been freed from Extreme Poverty over the past five years.

Addressing the event at District Panchayat auditorium for officially declaring Kannur district as free from Extreme Poverty in the State, Minister Rajesh said that the first decision taken by the State Government after assuming office in 2021 was to eliminate extreme poverty from the State.

Following this, a comprehensive survey identified 64,006 families living in Extreme Poverty.

Specialised micro plans were then developed for each family. As a result 94.47 percent of these families have now been lifted out of poverty
