Chennai, Jan. 14 -- More than 16,000 police personnel and 1,500 Home Guardswould be deployed on security duty in this megapolis ahead of "Kaanum Pongal"(sight seeing) on January 17, marking the culmination of the four-day Pongalfestivities in Tamil Nadu.
As per the instructions of Chennai City Police Commissioner A Arun apart fromphysical deployment of police personnel in uniform and in plain clothes, variousother measures are put in place to ensure that tight vigil was maintained in allplaces, including at the famous Marina beach, where hundreds and thousandsof people from various parts of the State, were expected to congregate.
