Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 5 -- Out of the total 2,668 Nilgiri tahr in the world, 1,365 are in Kerala and 1,303 in Tamil Nadu (TN), according to the Nilgiri Tahr Census Report released by State Forest and Wildlife Minister A.K. Saseendran here today.

Eravikulam National Park in Kerala has the highest number of tahr, with 841 individuals recorded. About 90% of Kerala's tahr population is concentrated in the Munnar landscape.

In Tamil Nadu, the highest numbers were found in Mukurthi National Park and Grass Hills National Park, adjoining the Kerala border.

The joint Nilgiri tahr census was conducted in the forest areas of Kerala and Tamil Nadu as part of the 50th anniversary of Eravikulam National Park.
