Kendrapara, Jan. 23 -- In a shocking incident allegedly triggered by gender bias, a 75-year-old man was arrested for attempting to set his daughter-in-law and her newborn girl child on fire . The incident occurred at Damarpur village under Pattamundai Rural police limits in Kendrapara district.
Police arrested the accused, Prafulla Ray, the father-in-law of the victim, Pattamundai SDPO Sukanta Kumar Patra said.
According to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, the victim, Sasmita Das, and her newborn daughter were sleeping in their room when the accused allegedly brought petrol from a nearby market, poured it on the bed, and set it ablaze with the intention of killing them.
