Bhubaneshwar, April 7 -- Violence erupted at a far-flung village in Odisha's Rayagada district today leaving more than 100 people including 58 policemen injured as the angry villagers, mostly tribal settlers, allegedly fought a pitched battle with cops.

People from Sijimali village took law into their hands and launched a fierce attack on policemen who had gone to the village to execute non-bailable warrants pending against law-breakers. Locals stiffly resisted and attacked the cops. As a result, as many as 58 policemen were injured with six of them critically injured. The seriously injured policemen have been rushed to a hospital in Visakhapatnam, said Swathi S Kumar.
