Kendrapara, April 16 -- The Odisha government has imposed a two-month ban on fishing activities along the eastern coast of the Bay of Bengal from April 15 to June 14 to facilitate the breeding of marine species.
The annual restriction, enforced under the Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1982, aims to protect fish during their crucial spawning season and ensure the long-term sustainability of marine resources.
Appealing to fishermen to comply with the ban, Joint Director of the Fisheries (Marine) Department, Rabi Narayan Patnaik, urged them not to venture into the sea using mechanised vessels and trawlers, as such activities could disrupt the breeding process and harm spawning fish.
