Bhubaneswar, Feb. 11 -- In a significant judgment reinforcing the State's crackdown on narcotics-related offences, the Court of the Additional District Judge-cum-Special Judge, Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday convicted a drug peddler under Section 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The accused was sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.1 lakh. In default of payment of the fine, he shall undergo an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment.

The conviction follows the seizure of 330 grams of brown sugar (diacetylmorphine/heroin) from the accused by the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police during a targeted operation in Bhubaneswar.
