Bhubaneswar, May 20 -- Activists of the Odisha Chhatra Congress organized a Mashal (torch) rally on Tuesday night, starting from Congress Bhawan, to demand 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in both higher education and government jobs.
The rally, led by Chhatra Congress President Udit Pradhan, proceeded towards the Chief Minister's residence but was intercepted and stopped by the police.
Addressing the gathering, Pradhan stated that thousands of OBC students are being deprived of opportunities due to the lack of adequate reservation in higher education and employment.
He urged the state government to immediately implement a 27 percent reservation policy for OBC students.
