Bhubaneswar, Feb. 18 -- The Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Wednesday as Opposition members from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Indian National Congress staged protests over alleged irregularities in paddy procurement and distress sales by farmers.
The uproar forced Speaker Surama Padhy to adjourn the House till 4 PM without conducting any business.
The disruption began when the House assembled at 10:30 AM for Question Hour. Members of the BJD and Congress entered the well of the House holding banners and placards, raising slogans over issues related to mandis and alleged mismanagement that they claimed prevented farmers from selling their paddy at fair prices.
