Balasore (Odisha), Feb. 26 -- In a landmark judgment, Balasore OPID Court Judge Biswajit Das has sentenced three members of a dacoity gang to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.17,000 each.
In case of non-payment, they will have to serve an additional 17 months of imprisonment, the judge ordered.
The verdict was based on the testimony of seven witnesses and 30 documentary pieces of evidence. This is the first conviction under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Balasore District.
