Puri, Jan. 12 -- Hundreds of irate villagers belonging to eleven villages gheraoed the district land consolidation and land settlement offices and locked them today demanding a stop to the ongoing settlement work till the 1988 Supreme Court order is implemented.
The villagers alleged that most of the villagers have lost their title over landed property due to the inordinate delay and irregularity in settlement of land rights by the revenue administration since 1988.
The villages affected include Samangara, Batagaon, Baliguali, Mangarajpur, Malatipatpur, Alikia, Rendua, Nuapatana, Nagapatana, Chakrabartipatana, and Puri Sadar.
In most cases, the land rights of the villagers were allegedly deleted.
