Bhubaneswar, Sept. 23 -- The Additional District Magistrate and Special POCSO Court, Jajpur, has sentenced Arakshit Parida (52) to life imprisonment for the rape of an eight-year-old girl in the Bari-Ramachandrapur police station area of Jajpur district.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the accused.
The court directed the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 5 lakh as compassionate assistance to the victim.
The incident occurred on October 23, 2024, when the girl was returning home after playing. The accused lured her to a secluded place, committed the assault, and warned her not to disclose it.
The victim was first admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College, Cuttack.
