Bhubaneshwar, Sept. 23 -- At least 45 people were killed and several others injured in wild elephant attacks over the last six months in Odisha, while the deaths of nine elephants were reported during the same period from 1 April to 15 September, the Government informed the State Assembly today.
According to the latest elephant census conducted in November 2024, the State is home to 2,103 elephants spread across 51 wildlife divisions.
Of the nine elephant fatalities, seven died due to electrocution, while one each was killed in a train accident and by poaching.
