Itanagar, Feb. 16 -- A hardcore insurgent belonging to the Khaplang-Aung Yung (K-YA) faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) surrendered before the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles following sustained intelligence-based operations in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district on Sunday, sources said on Monday.

According to official sources, credible intelligence inputs were received from 3 CIB and further corroborated by 19 WEU at around 1200 hours on February 15 regarding the presence of an insurgent in the general area of Khonsa town. Acting swiftly, the Khonsa Battalion launched a focused operation.
