Mumbai, March 19 -- The Mithi river desilting work here has hit yet another hurdle as the tender process continues to receive no response from contractors compelling extension of the deadline.
The work on this tidal river heavily polluted due to industrial and domestic effluents, is crucial to prevent massive flooding during the upcoming monsoon season.
After previous contractors abandoned the work midway, allegedly due to payment issues and a scam over fraudulent bill claims, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation floated a fresh tender on February 28. The initial deadline for submissions was set for March 11. However, not a single contractor responded within this period.
