New Delhi, March 11 -- The government on Wednesday said that advertisements telecast on private satellite TV channels must strictly comply with the Advertising Code prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, which prohibits claims suggesting that a product possesses "miraculous", "supernatural" or unproven special properties.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan said that appropriate action is taken against private television channels whenever violations of the advertising code are detected, while the ministry also issues periodic advisories to broadcasters to ensure compliance.
