Kendrapara, Jan. 31 -- Forest personnel of the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary apprehended nine fishermen in the early hours of Saturday for illegally fishing inside the no-fishing zone of the sanctuary.
According to Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary Ranger Kapilendra Pradhan, the forest team intercepted a mechanised fishing vessel during routine sea patrolling after it was found operating within the core area of the protected marine zone.
The fishermen were arrested on the spot, and officials seized the fishing vessel along with 18.7 quintals of miscellaneous fish catch, 10 trawling nets, one GPS device, two VHF sets, and a fish finder.
