Mumbai, Sept. 30 -- A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court directed five accused in the Elgar Parishad case to file their replies to an application moved by the central agency seeking directions to impound their passports under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Special Public Prosecutor Prakash Shetty, while moving the plea, cited provisions of the UAPA and argued that the court has powers to impound passports of accused persons on bail as there is an apprehension they may misuse the document to leave the country.
The plea pertains to accused Rona Wilson, Mahesh Raut, Anand Teltumbde, Gautam Navlakha and Hany Babu.
