New Delhi, April 9 -- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered 12 cases in connection with the gherao of judicial officers deployed for work related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Malda, West Bengal. The action follows directions issued by the Supreme Court of India.
In an official statement released late Wednesday, the agency said it has taken over and re-registered seven FIRs from Mothabari Police Station and five from Kalichak Police Station in Malda district. These cases pertain to incidents linked to the safety and security of judicial officers engaged in electoral duties, in line with the apex court's April 6 order.
