New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports alleging the death of a villager and injuries to several others during a police lathi charge in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on September 9.
The protestors were reportedly opposing the installation of electricity poles.
The Commission noted that if the reports are found to be accurate, they would constitute serious violations of human rights.
