Bhubaneswar, July 2 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued notices to the Odisha Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP), calling for a detailed report on the inhuman treatment of two Scheduled Caste persons in Ganjam district.

The apex rights body took suo motu cognizance of a media report which revealed that two persons belonging to the Scheduled Caste community were allegedly beaten, forced to eat grass, and made to drink drain water by members of another community, on suspicion of illegally smuggling cattle.
