Kannur, Jan. 15 -- The parole of newly-elected CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) councillor of Payyanur Municipality, V K Nishad, who is serving a 20-years sentence in connection with a bomb attack on a police vehicle, was extended by another 15 days on Thursday.

This is the third consecutive extension of parole granted to Nishad.

The first was an emergency parole sanctioned by Kannur Central Jail Superintendent on humanitarian grounds, citing his father's illness on December 26. The second extension was approved by the Jail DGP, while reports indicate that the third extension was cleared by the Home Department.

Nishad was lodged at Kannur Central Jail on November 25.
