Patna, March 28 -- In a major push towards cleaner and pollution-free urban areas, the Bihar government has issued new guidelines mandating bulk waste generators to process their waste on-site and introducing a four-way segregation system for households.

Sources at the Patna Municipal Corporation said that the new provisions will come into effect across all urban local bodies from April.

Under the revised framework, institutions generating more than 100 kg of waste per day including apartments, hotels and government offices will be required to install in-house waste processing systems and ensure on-site composting of wet waste. Officials have warned that any violation will attract strict penalties.
