Bengaluru, Feb. 5 -- A new internal alignment appears to be taking shape within the Karnataka Congress, subtly reshaping the party's internal equations even as its top leadership continues to project unity.

Legislators belonging to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Lingayat communities have begun holding separate meetings in Bengaluru, fuelling speculation about the emergence of a "third front" within the ruling party.

Lingayat MLAs met on Monday night under the leadership of Industries Minister MB Patil, while SC and ST legislators held a meeting on Tuesday evening at the residence of Home Minister G Parameshwara.
