Lucknow, March 30 -- In a significant move to enhance transparency and accountability in police encounters, the Allahabad High Court has prompted new directives that have now been implemented by the state's Director General of Police (DGP), officials disclosed on Monday.

Drawing inspiration from the Maharashtra Model, the guidelines mandate stricter procedures for registering and investigating encounter cases.

Under the revised rules, any police encounter must now be formally registered as a case at the police station within whose jurisdiction the incident occurs.
