Bhubaneswar, May 14 -- The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has invoked its authority under Article 338A of the Constitution of India to investigate the alleged rape of a minor girl at the Guneipada ST-SC Girls' Hostel, located in Lamtaput Block of Odisha's Koraput District.

The NCST formally issued a notice on Tuesday following a serious complaint filed on May 5 by BJD leader and former minister Tukuni Sahu, along with others.

The complaint pertains to the alleged heinous crime that occurred at the hostel, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Machkund Police Station in Koraput District. It also highlights systemic failures in the management and safety of Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste girls' hostels in Odisha.
