Mumbai, Dec. 31 -- In a tragic development amid the ongoing civic election process, Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) candidate Javed Pathan (66) died of a heart attack on Tuesday afternoon, just hours after submitting his nomination papers for the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation polls.

Pathan had filed his nomination for Ward No. 22 between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. At around 3:30 PM, he reportedly collapsed near Haidari Chowk, Mira Road, following a sudden cardiac episode. He was rushed to a hospital immediately, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
