Chandigarh, Feb. 6 -- The Congress party has officially expelled Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, former MLA and wife of veteran cricketer and ex-Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The announcement was made by Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel during his visit to Amritsar.

This development follows a period of heightened friction between Dr. Sidhu and the party high command, leading to her suspension by state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring approximately two months ago.

While the formal expulsion was announced today, Dr. Sidhu had already declared her intention to sever ties with the party on January 31.
