Bhubaneswar, Jan. 15 -- Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Thursday suspended two sitting party MLAs with immediate effect for their alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

According to an official order issued by Patnaik, Patkura MLA Arvinda Mohapatra and Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud have been suspended from the party.

Arvinda Mohapatra, son of veteran political leader and former minister Bijay Mohapatra, joined the BJD ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections and won the Patkura seat by defeating BJP candidate Tejeswar Parida.

Bijay Mohapatra, a founding member of the BJD and a prominent figure in Odisha politics, was expelled from the party by Naveen Patnaik during the 2009 Assembly elections....
