Lucknow, Jan. 27 -- A nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions on Tuesday, demanding the implementation of a five-day banking system, had widespread impact in Lucknow.

With employees of 905 branches of public sector banks on strike, clearing worth Rs 2,500 crore was affected in the city.

In this connection, bank employees staged a strong protest at the Indian Bank branch in Hazratganj, Lucknow, raising slogans against the central government and presenting their demands.

Anil Srivastava, district convener of the Forum, said that before the strike, bank employees had held several phases of protests, rallies, and social media campaigns, but the central government is unwilling to consider their single demand.
