Durgapur, Dec. 7 -- WGM Mary Ann Gomes of PSPB and Uttar Pradesh WFM Shubhi Gupta led the table with perfect five-point each at the end of the Round 5 of the 51st National Women's Chess Championship, being played here at the Sidhu Kanhu Stadium here on Sunday.
The leaders are being closely followed by 3 other players having 4.5 points each: - Kalyani Sirin and Sneha Halder- both from Bengal and P Nandhidaa from Tamil Nadu.
An upset took place in this round when Sneha Halder brilliantly defeated fancide Bristy Mukherjee.
In the Caracan opening, Bristy with white pieces suddenly made a mistake and her opponent immediately gained a clear advantage and won a pawn. Finally she won in 71 moves in an exciting endgame.
