Dimapur, March 8 -- Amid ongoing controversy over singing of Vande Mataram at government functions in Nagaland, students and scholars of Nagaland University reportedly boycotted the rendition of the national song during the 8th convocation of the university.

A video circulating on social media showed the students and scholars seated when the song was played at the beginning and conclusion of the convocation at the Lumami campus of the university in Zunheboto district on Friday.

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan was in attendance as the chief guest of the ceremony.

The Nagaland University Students' union (Lumami Campus) reportedly protested the playing of the song at the directive of the Naga Students' Federation (NSF).
