Mumbai, Oct. 8 -- A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here today delivered a landmark verdict, convicting two former police officers in connection with the 2009 custodial death of 22-year-old Altaf Kadir Shaikh.
Special Judge A.V. Gujarathi sentenced Sanjay Sudam Khedekar, then a Police Sub-Inspector at Ghatkopar police station, and Raghunath Vithoba Kolekar, a former Head Constable, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.
The officers were acquitted of murder charges but found guilty under sections relating to voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement, extortion by causing hurt, and criminal conspiracy.
