Bhopal, March 26 -- Ten persons were killed and 31 were injured, including half-a-dozen critically, just about an hour after they were returning from attending a function of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, as their bus collided head-on with a pick-up truck in the Chhindwara district of the state late on Thursday evening.

According to Chhindwara SP Ajay Pandey, the incident occurred near Simaria on Nagpur road.

"Six men, three women and a child were killed in the accident," the SP informed.

Of the seriously injured, one person was rushed to a hospital in Nagpur in neighbouring Maharashtra for advanced treatment.

The bus was carrying more than 40 passengers at the time of the accident.
