Aizawl, Feb. 12 -- Mizoram's lone Rajya Sabha member K. Vanlalvena on Thursday pressed the central government to accord national highway status to two strategic border roads along the Mizoram-Myanmar frontier, citing their importance for connectivity, trade, security and regional development.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Vanlalvena urged the Centre to declare the Hnahthial-Tarpho-Khawhri-Cherhlun-Thingsai-Bualpui H-Saisihchhuah road and the Hnahthial-Tuipui D-Darzo-S. Vanlaiphai-Sangau-Pangkhua-Saisihchhuah road as national highways.
Both routes provide vital links to Myanmar through Saisihchhuah, a border village in southern Mizoram's Lawngtlai district.
