Chandigarh, April 17 -- The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday issued an interim order confirming that Amritpal Singh, Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib, will not be shifted back to Punjab and will continue to be lodged at the Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam.
The court ruled that the trial for all pending cases against the radical leader will be conducted from the Assam facility.
This development comes as the detention period under the National Security Act (NSA) is set to expire on April 22, with the Punjab government deciding not to extend the stringent act further.
Despite the withdrawal of NSA charges, the Punjab government moved an appeal before the High Court seeking to keep Singh in Dibrugarh Jail.
