Tehran/New Delhi, March 9 -- Ayatollah Mojataba Khamenei has been aappointed the Supreme Leader of Iran succeeding Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who was killed in Israeli-US airstrike on February 28.
Iran's Mehr News Agency (MNA) said ''The Assembly of Experts of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced Ayatollah Seyyed Mojataba Khamenei as the third Leader of the Islamic Revolution early on Monday.'' In a statement, the Assembly of Experts said that immediately after the ''martyrdom'' of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and despite wartime conditions, enemy threats, and a bombing of the Assembly's offices, it did not hesitate in selecting a new leader.
