Aizawl, March 4 -- Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has made it clear that the state government will not lift the prohibition on alcohol, nor will wine shops be permitted. However, he confirmed that the production and sale of beer and wine, subject to strict regulations, will be allowed.
Speaking to the press after the presentation of the state's annual budget in the legislative assembly, Lalduhoma emphasized that churches had been consulted and had given their consent to the decision. "There are calls from certain quarters to lift the dry law and open wine shops, but we will not entertain such demands," he stated, adding that beer and wine are not universally classified as alcoholic beverages.
