Srinagar, March 16 -- Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday claimed that he was placed under house arrest and that the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar was closed to worshippers on the sacred night of Laylatul Qadr.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz, who is also the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, said that while prayers and supplications echoed across mosques seeking Allah's mercy and forgiveness, the central mosque in Srinagar remained shut and he had been confined to his residence.
