Chennai, June 18 -- Three sitting and two retired judges of Madras High Court were among the hundreds of passengers, who had a providential escape after attempts were made to derail the Yercaud Superfast Express train by placing a 10 ft long iron rod (said to be piece of railway track) on the tracks.

The incident took place last night near Magudanchavadi Railway Station in Salem District when the train was heading to Chennai from Erode.

The train was dragged to a distance of about 500 m after hitting the rod, before it was halted safely by the alert driver after the brake lining of the engine got jammed.
