Nagpur, Feb. 12 -- A chartered helicopter carrying senior officials of Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) was forced to return shortly after take-off on Wednesday morning following a suspected bird strike at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur, sources said on Thursday.
According to sources, the Bell helicopter had departed for Ghugus in Chandrapur district, where LMEL operates a major steel plant, when the pilot detected a possible bird hit moments after becoming airborne.
As a precautionary measure, the pilot aborted the flight and safely landed back at the airport.
No injuries were reported.
During a subsequent inspection, a dead pigeon was recovered from the runway area.
