Chennai, Feb. 28 -- The Met office on Saturday evening issued an intense Heat Wave alert for Tamil Nadu from March to May 2026.

It said Northern Tamil Nadu is likely to experience an above-normal number of heatwave days during the March-May 2026 season with the day temperature, which at present hovered around 32-33 deg C, excepted to go up once the heatwave started intensifying.

The increased heatwave risk may affect public health, water supply, power demand, and essential services, particularly impacting the elderly, children, outdoor workers, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

High temperatures can lead to heat-related illnesses and added stress on infrastructure, it said.
