Tehran, April 21 -- Merchant vessels appeared to be avoiding the Strait of Hormuz entirely on Tuesday after Iran said the narrow waterway has now been completely closed again "until further notice," citing "enemy attack" on an Iranian vessel by the US.
According to data from the ship-tracking website MarineTraffic, ship visibility in the strait was close to zero as almost no vessels were visible in the narrow waterway, as several ships which had earlier been seen approaching Iran's previously designated "safe route" for transit had stopped in their tracks, while some were seen turning around.
However, the data does not account for ships that have their automatic identification system transponders turned off.
