Shillong, April 27 -- At least 76 people were affected by a severe thunderstorm that swept through parts of South West Garo Hills district in Meghalaya on Sunday night, officials said today.
However, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
In a statement, the Deputy Commissioner's office of South West Garo Hills, said the worst-affected areas include Rerapara, Zik Zak, and Purakhasia Community & Rural Development Blocks, where strong winds and intense lightning activity caused widespread disruption.
Rerapara emerged as the most affected block among these, with 36 people impacted across five villages. Several houses sustained damage, including four that were partially damaged and one completely destroyed.
