Shillong, Jan. 31 -- The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has recommended the payment of compensation to victims of human rights violations during the police operation and detention of persons at Rimpu Bagan in Edenbari locality of Tura under West Garo Hills district in 2022.

In a statement issued here on Friday, MHRC Secretary Levenstone Ch. Marak said the Commission registered a total of 30 cases relating to complaints of human rights violations during the operation conducted by police at Rimpu Bagan on June 22, 2022"Out of the 30 cases registered, 15 cases were withdrawn by the complainants," the MHRC official said.

The Commission conducted an enquiry into the remaining 15 cases and examined evidence presented by both parties....
