Shillong, Oct. 27 -- Meghalaya Police today said it had arrested five Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India and were attempting to return to Bangladesh.

The individuals were travelling in a tourist vehicle without valid documentation.

The detained Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Md. Alamgir Mia (25), Lelepa Begum (40), Musanat Jahana Khatoon (35), Md. Imammul Hassan (18) and Md. Fajid Bilal (47).

District police chief of East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, said the arrested Bangladeshi nationals were attempting to return to Bangladesh via Shillong from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

Upon preliminary inquiry, Syiem said the passengers failed to produce any valid travel documents, raising suspicion.
