Shillong, Feb. 4 -- The Meghalaya High Court panel to monitor coal-related issues has directed the district authorities of East Jaintia Hills to identify vulnerable areas and increase patrolling to curb illegal coal mining.
In his 34th interim report submitted before the High Court, Justice (retired) Brojendra Prasad Katakey, stressed identifying the vulnerable areas and villages where illegal coal mining activities generally occur by the district magistrate. Patrolling of those identified areas should be intensified on a regular basis, as illegal coal mining continiues in East Jaintia Hills district.
